About the Role:
The Grenada National Museum is seeking a highly qualified Senior Research Officer to conduct rigorous, inclusive, and mission-aligned research that supports exhibitions, publications, educational programming, and public engagement. This role bridges academic research, community engagement, and digital storytelling, working collaboratively with other researchers, curators and the Cultural Engagement & Media Officer and the Communications team to turn research into impactful, accessible narratives.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct comprehensive research using diverse methods, including qualitative, quantitative, ethnographic, archaeological, archival, oral history, and field-based approaches.
• Produce scholarly and interpretive outputs to support exhibitions, publications, digital media, and public programming.
• Collaborate closely with the Cultural Engagement & Media Officer to ensure research informs interpretive content, educational initiatives, and community engagement strategies.
• Identify funding opportunities and develop grant proposals to support museum research, exhibitions, and programs.
• Engage with academic researchers, community knowledge holders, and heritage stakeholders locally, regionally, and internationally.
• Design and implement research instruments (e.g., surveys, focus groups, evaluation metrics) to assess the impact of museum programs and exhibitions.
• Present research findings through talks, lectures, publications, and community forums.
• Contribute to strategic institutional planning by providing evidence-based insights and reports.
• Maintain active professional networks and participate in conferences, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
• Mentors and supervises Junior Research Officer.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Master’s degree (or equivalent professional experience) in Museology, History, Archaeology, Anthropology, Heritage Studies, Cultural Studies, Sociology or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in conducting archival, field, oral history, and community-based research.
• Strong analytical, writing, and interpretive communication skills.
• Knowledge of Caribbean history, cultural heritage, and inclusive/decolonial research methodologies.
• Ability to adapt academic findings for multiple formats, including exhibitions, publications, digital media, and educational outputs.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to work with diverse communities and stakeholders.
• Experience in preparing successful grant applications is highly desirable.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for local fieldwork.
