Job Description
The Bank and General Workers’ Union (BGWU) is seeking to recruit a dedicated and knowledgeable Industrial Relations Officer to join its Secretariat team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to play a key role in advocating for workers’ rights, supporting negotiations, and strengthening industrial relations across the Union’s membership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Represent and advocate on behalf of union members in negotiations with employers
• Handle grievances and disputes
• Conduct and support collective bargaining
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of cases, agreements, and correspondence
• Provide guidance to members on industrial relations matters and applicable labour laws
• Liaise with employers, government institutions, and other stakeholders on behalf of the Union
• Conduct workplace visits and field work as required
• Prepare reports, correspondences and recommendations arising from workplace investigations and negotiations. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of five (5) CXC subjects, including English Language
• Certificate in Industrial Relations or a related field
• Training in Occupational Safety and Health
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in negotiations, grievance handling, and record keeping
• Sound working knowledge of local labour laws and industrial relations practice
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with members, employers, and officials at all levels
• A valid driver’s license and access to personal transportation are required
