Job Description

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Health, Safety and Environmental Officer shall be responsible for providing Health, Safety and Environmental leadership to the company by developing strategies, which improve existing programs, meet regulatory requirements and deliver business results aimed at overall improvements in the areas. These duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Liaison with external stakeholders including governmental and interested parties on HSE requirements and obligations to ensure GBC complies with their needs and expectations.  
  • Collaborate with management and employees to enable a mature HSE culture. 
  • Lead Risk Assessment teams to ensure HSE risk assessments are completed to comply with applicable regulations, compliance obligations and HSE best practices. 
  • Guide development of HSE operational practices to eliminate or reduce identified risks using hierarchy of controls approach. 
  • Contribute to planning and execution of projects to achieve HSE objectives.
  • Coordinate accident investigations, audits, assessments and inspections, to identify causative factors that resulted in the nonconformity.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective action plans.  
  • Implement the company’s contractor management policy and procedures to control contractors’ HSE performance. 
  • Implement a program that manages near misses, lessons-learned and best practices as an input to improvement of HSE performance. 
  • Coordinate all emergency responses in the event of an accident and assist in investigation of incidents and accidents.
  • Assist with the periodic review and dissemination of relevant information, policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with HR to develop and implement a training plan to ensure the company’s personnel have the required awareness, training and competence to participate and enable HSE objectives. 
  • Coordinate and conduct Health & Safety training.
  • Assisting with the development, coordinating and continuous improvement of the company’s HSE programs to achieve HSE performance. 
  • Provide professional and technical support to senior management, and key operational people to improve HSE performance. 
  • Perform data analysis and communicate trends to guide informed decisions and recommendations for achievement of HSE culture and objectives.
  • Provide HSE performance reports as required.
  • Other job-related duties/functions may be assigned by management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Degree in Sciences/ Occupational Health and Safety and/or minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar or related field.
  • Must have a strong systems background and have excellent analytical skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills. 
  • Work experience in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Operational understanding of ISO Standards and application of a management system to achieve business results.
